Bridget McConnell

Qualifications and Experience

My name is Bridget McConnell. I am a warm, professional and engaging therapist. I work integratively from a humanistic and transpersonal perspective. I use Gestalt, psychosynthesis, attachment theory and some CBT approaches within my work. I specialise in creative interventions, including sand tray, art and clay amongst others.

My experience includes counselling in a GP surgery for the NHS, and as a youth counsellor offering short term counselling for various youth agencies and am currently a school counsellor in a co-educational boarding school. In addition, I lecture in counselling at Guildford College.

I have a first class honours degree in counselling and psychotherapy from Greenwich University, and over 20 years' experience in various holistic and therapeutic fields. I am a registered member of the BACP, and am fully insured and DBS checked.

Previous to my counselling career I practiced in holistic therapies, and have extensive knowledge of how mental health can affect our whole body through the 'felt-sense' of experience, and the intrinsic relationship between the body and physically holding and processing difficulty or trauma. Using focussing orientated and sensorimotor approaches can be very effective in letting bodies do the talking and unwinding these patterns leading to better physical, emotional and mental well-being.

I am also an EFT (emotional freedom technique) and EMO (energy in motion) practitioner. These therapies help to address the 'felt sense' of emotions, clearing and resolving any resulting tensions held within the body. I include these and mindfulness/ visualisation techniques within my counselling practice.

As an integrative and humanistic practitioner, I work with an individuals unique experience. However, I have good working knowledge of many issues such as:

  • anxiety and depression

  • panic attacks

  • PTSD

  • abuse

  • bereavement

  • stillbirth and miscarriage

  • relationship issues

  • suicidal thoughts

  • self-harm
