Frequently Asked Questions

How long are counselling sessions?

Sessions are 50 minutes.

How much does a counselling session cost?

My current session fees are:

  • 20 minute free introductory call

  • 50 minute session fee online or in person £65

  • Concessionary rates for students and carers are available on request.

How often should I have counselling?

At least for the first 6 weeks sessions it benefits to have counselling weekly. This helps develop our relationship, weekly sessions allow time for you to process the previous week and build on it. If we have a longer gap in the initial stages of working together, it can be a false economy as the relationship will take longer to develop. However, I appreciate this may not be possible and we can discuss this in our initial conversation. I offer appointments at the same time each week or the flexibility to schedule sessions to work around your life.

How many sessions do I need to commit to?

You commit on a week-by-week basis. There is no long-term commitment needed. Depending on you and how you find counselling and what you want to get from it you can come to counselling for as long as you wish. Some people find that a few sessions is enough, others continue counselling long-term, it depends on the individual.

What happens at a counselling session?

In our free introductory session, I will ask a few questions about what has led you to look for a counsellor and what your hopes for counselling are. I will explain how I work and my approach to counselling. It is an opportunity for you to see if you feel comfortable with me. As a person-centred counsellor I am led by you and what you want to talk about. When we begin sessions together we talk about what is happening in your life that you would like support with. As the counselling progresses your focus for the sessions may change as you start to feel differently.

What is person-centred counselling?

Person-centred counselling is a client led approach to therapy. I work with what you want to talk about, at your pace. I offer you warmth, support, acceptance and empathy.

As a person-centred counsellor I believe that you have the answers to the issues you are facing, however life and its experiences can get in the way of that trust in ourselves. In our sessions we can explore and discover (or rediscover) that trust in yourself.

How do I begin counselling with you?

It is really important that you choose a counsellor who you feel comfortable with. I would encourage you to contact a few counsellors and have an initial conversation with them. I offer a 20-minute free telephone / zoom call to see if my approach to counselling works for you. Please contact me below if you would like to set up an introductory call.
